With the T-Type, MG introduced a simple body-on-frame roadster in 1936, which was built in five evolutionary stages for almost 20 years. The TD represents the fourth development of the T-Type and was launched in 1950. It combined the drivetrain of its predecessor, the TC, with the chassis of the MG Series Y. It thus featured independent suspension with coil springs on the front axle and rack-and-pinion steering. Of the approximately 30,000 units built, approximately 23,500 were exported to the USA, making the TD a rarity in Europe even during its production run.
